    • Yes you are correct! I tried to find Nile’s Rouged website but could not locate one. Probably it does not exist anymore.

Wordpress is still ticking me off, but I’ve never been able to get any of the other blogging software like Movable Type to work. Besides, most hosting companies don’t allow Movable Type anymore. I could probably do Nucleus, but frankly I’m just not in the mo ... Continue reading »

  • I felt the same way when I first used Wordpress, now, it's a piece of cake :)
  • Hey Charity, good news -- I work with the MT team, and there are definitely lots of web hosts you can choose from to use Movable Type. The new version 4.2 that's about to be released is faster than ever and should work on any web host, and you can get it for free at http://www.movabletype.org/ . It even imports your WordPress posts if you want to try migrating your site. Let me know if you give it a try; You can even take a look at a demo install at http://www.movabledemo.com/ if you want to just see how it works.
  • Which hosts aren't allowing MT? I've heard of previous versions of 4.x getting throttled, but I haven't heard of a ban on MT yet.
  • Actually the other problem is when I have had a host that allowed it (my current one might, but my previous 2 did not), it would never work correctly. LOL It would let me log in, but as soon as I edited the log in info, it'd stop working, or if it didn't stop working then, it would not allow me to make any posts. So I gave up on it.
  • Some hosts don't allow it as it's been seen as a security threat. I had a reseller through a hosting company who had an explicit ban on both Greymatter & MT. If it ran in the cgi-bin, it was forbidden.
  • Hm, that's odd. WP has gotten quite a bit more flak for security issues than MT has. In fact, from 2005 - 2008, the Department of Homeland Security has listed 120 security vulnerabilities for WordPress to Movable Type's 10. (http://www.movabletype.com/blog/2008/06/movable...)

If you ever decide to get MT going again, you should hook up to the ProNet mailing list or hop into #movabletype on IRC. Lots of healthy discussion going on in those venues between people who could help you get things working for yourself.
  • As per usual, MT does NOT work for me. Truthfully there is no such thing as a secure script. Some hacker will figure out a way to exploit any script that is produced. But I tried several different things last night and MT would not work for me at all, and frankly, I don't have the money to pay Six Apart to install it for me, so I'll just leave it be.
